Hello and welcome to my blog. Here you will find musings on various topics from video games to mental health to fatherhood.
These thoughts are my own and I should probably warn you that not all posts are totally safe for work!
Hello and welcome to my blog. Here you will find musings on various topics from video games to mental health to fatherhood.
These thoughts are my own and I should probably warn you that not all posts are totally safe for work!
I’ve always been a big reader and have often dreamed about becoming a writer, but I never imagined that writing would one day save my life.
Well, perhaps that’s a little melodramatic, but it is definitely true that writing about my experiences enabled me to process what I’d been going through and allowed me to finally recover after years of struggling with depression, anxiety and insomnia. (more…)
I’ve talked previously about my first impressions of our all-electric 2015 Renault Zoe, as well as our experience of living with it for the first few months. Now it’s time to talk about the main ‘elephant in the room’ when it comes to electric cars; what is it like on longer journeys?
Well, we’ve officially kept a baby alive for one whole year! Maybe we’re not as bad at this parenting thing as we thought…
And no, I just looked it up, apparently, there isn’t supposed to be a colon in there. Another reason why this is a strong contender for the worst video game title of all time!
But is the actual game any good?
Well, we’re now at the stage that every parent both hopes for and dreads.
The moment where he no longer stays where you put him!
We are currently in the no-mans-land between Christmas and New Year, having survived our baby’s first Christmas (in lockdown). Maybe not what we would have hoped for, but it was about as good as could be expected in the circumstances. At least the poor little guy doesn’t know what’s going on!
And suddenly, it’s November. It’s hard to believe that we are now past the halfway point of m’boy’s first year on this planet. We’re still learning how to be parents and battling against the changing moods of the pandemic, but at least it feels like we’re starting to settle into something resembling a routine.
So, it’s been a big week for us. We are finally making use of the special room that we spent ages getting ready (and then haven’t actually set foot in for six long months!).
In part 1 of my review of XCOM: Chimera Squad, I talked about my experience of playing the game to completion for the first time and looked at the general strokes of how the game was different to its predecessors. In this version, I want to focus more on the actual mechanics of the game.
I haven’t done a game review in a while, mainly because I don’t play games close to their release dates any more. They’re just too expensive and I’ve had too many disappointments in the past. However, I not only bought XCOM: Chimera Squad soon after it was released, but I also feel qualified to comment on it, given my history with the series.
It’s getting harder to find the time to keep this blog up to date, but I’m going to do my best to summarise the key points from the last few weeks in this shorter-than-usual update.
Eight weeks in and, as things hit a low point, we had to make a tough call about whether to follow the orders of our malicious and inept wise and glorious leaders or whether to prioritise the physical and mental health of us and our baby…
